Superior doctors prevent the disease.
Mediocre doctors treat the disease before evident.
Inferior doctors treat the full-blown disease.

Advanced Body Scan of Newport is a physician owned facility that opened in June 2001 with a mission to provide the community with cutting edge diagnostic and screening medical imaging procedures. Electron Beam Tomography (EBT) is an innovative outgrowth of Computed Tomography (CT) technology specifically developed to acquire images fast enough to freeze the beating heart. Approximately 20 years ago, physicists at UC San Francisco identified a new method for taking pictures with a cat scan. This scanner, the ‘Ultrafast’ (CT) cat scan, can take up to 20 pictures a second, thus useful for imaging a beating heart. Conventional (CT) cat scanners are too slow (up to 5 pictures per second) to obtain images of the heart without seeing a movement blur. Additional benefits of the ‘Ultrafast’ electron beam cat scan is the scanner is open and non-claustrophobic, and the X-ray radiation used to acquire the body image is only about 1/3 that of conventional spiral CT scanners. Also, since the radiation enters the body from the back, radiation exposure to the breasts is much reduced.

Advanced Body Scan of Newport offers healthcare professionals a sophisticated program for screening for coronary heart disease, lung cancer, osteoporosis, and colon cancer along with our non-invasive CT coronary angiography. Utilizing electron beam CT scanning of the coronary arteries to measure of the coronary plaque burden, we can access the probability of cardiac events in the near future and make more appropriate treatment and follow-up recommendations. In addition, repeat coronary calcium scoring over time allows us to monitor the response to our medications and make the necessary modifications to our treatment plans. This web site designed to provide you with latest information about EBT coronary calcium scoring; hopefully, we can dispel many of the common myths and misconceptions about this exciting new technology. Coronary angiography done non-invasively with the GE Imatron Electron Beam Scanner provides the opportunity exam the coronary arteries without the risks associated with conventional angiography and is reimbursed by many insurance plans. We believe we are entering into a new era in the treatment and prevention of coronary heart disease.

We look forward to working closely with you, and helping you provide the best possible outcomes for your patients. We are available for any and all questions you may have and encourage you to take the time to come by for a tour of our facility.

Sincerely,

The left image is an abdominal slice taken with a conventional mechanical CT scanner with 300 msec acquisition time. On the right is the same slice taken with EBT technology showing a cine view of three 100 msec images stitched together to demonstrate that even in the abdomen, there is considerable motion during each heartbeat.
